LiNa Energy

LiNa Energy’s solid-state sodium battery energy storage systems

LiNa Energy‘s cobalt- and lithium-free solid-state sodium battery is an ideal solution for renewable energy storage systems, which are critical in supporting the electrification of our grids and transport.

Project Highlights

  • Innovative re-engineering of operationally proven sodiummetal-chloride chemistry, originally developed in the 80s and 90s, but due to design engineering limitations and the emergence of lithium-ion batteries, there haven’t been any major developments or performance advancements.
  • LiNa batteries offer higher energy density, lower cost, and better temperature resilience than lithium-ion batteries, making them a more economic choice for longer-duration (>4 hrs) energy storage in key solar growth markets.
  • Uses abundant raw materials, enabling competitive cost even at a ‘mega-factory’ scale.
  • Our Technology Developer Accelerator Programme (TDAP) helped LiNa Energy with commercial market support including a focus on product market fit and validation, as well as business plan development that helped secure partnerships with UK beachhead market customers. During TDAP, LiNa Energy signed 3 memorandum of understanding agreements with potential customers and partners.
