New funding accelerated UK’s green automotive future
Just days after announcing £54 million of investment in net-zero emission automotive technology, the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) is welcoming applications from UK-based companies developing late-stage R&D, to support growth in advanced low carbon propulsion capability in the automotive sector and its associated supply chain.
APC18 is a combined award with funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and matched by industry partners. It will offer a share of up to £25 million to projects working in a consortium, involving Original Equipment Manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers, SMEs, and academia, that are able to demonstrate how their technology will not only support the future of electrification and net-zero emission vehicles, but also safeguard or create UK-based jobs.
London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has benefitted from APC funding during the 15th round of the core competition programme, which was awarded in June 2020. LEVC’s EVE (Electric Vehicle Evolution) project received funding for a collaboration involving specialist UK-based companies and academia that will develop, localise and industrialise the next generation of EV technology for existing and future vehicles produced by LEVC. Building on the success of the current ‘eCity’ technology that has already helped to reduce over 30,000 tonnes of CO2, investment in this new EV technology will ensure that LEVC continues to lead the development of innovative green mobility products.

The funding provided by APC18 will help companies to accelerate their technology and vehicle development by accessing not just financial investment but also collaborative working by bringing companies, large and small, together with academia to ensure that the UK can develop the latest automotive innovations.
