The next generation of automotive technology on display today

Companies at the cutting edge of innovation presented their technology at The Proving Factory during a Meet the Engineer event this week. A wide range of SMEs, including many supported by the APC’s Technology Developer Accelerator Programme displayed their prototypes to potential customers from industry at an event created by Productiv. The creativity and commitment from these early stage innovators are part of the UK’s connected approach to driving growth and opportunity for the automotive sector as part of the Industrial Strategy created between government and industry through the Automotive Council.

The event in Coventry provided guests with insight into the current SMEs projects that are being helped through their early stages. Companies had the chance to pitch their idea and potentially spark collaboration and investment for their projects. Here is a short video showing the companies and stakeholders sharing ideas at the event.

SMEs are a key focus for the APC and feature in the applications being received for the current grant funding competition with up to £60 million currently available to support low carbon advanced propulsion projects worth more than £120 million.

The competition which opened on the 5th May and runs until the end of June is called ‘APC4 Driving UK Capability and Economic Impact through Low Carbon Propulsion Technologies’ for projects which are collaborative and business-led and include a vehicle manufacturer or a tier 1 supplier and an SME partner. They must also develop the UK’s supply chain in the field of low carbon vehicle propulsion technology. The competition will fund the development of on-vehicle technologies for either on-road or off-highway vehicles.

Consortia must have a clear, demonstrable route to production, and line of sight to market, involving at least one vehicle manufacturer and/or a tier 1 supplier and at least one SME partner.
