Collaborative R&D Competitions

HV Systems – Hydrogen-Electric HGV Powertrain development

This project aims to further develop a novel ground-up Fuel Cell Electric Heavy Goods Tractor Unit to replace existing diesel vehicles in the UK and Europe. It will deliver an efficient and production-ready Fuel Cell/Battery Hybrid (FCEV) cab and powertrain, with an intelligent control system for Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) – a first application of its kind for this vehicle type.

The project consortium will undertake R&D and production of the full vehicle powertrain, covering engineering, testing and development, to further the UK’s ambition to decarbonise the HGV sector (as described in the UK’s Hydrogen Strategy).

Decarbonising the Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) industry
