Composites Evolution Ltd

Net-zero bio-based composite materials for next-generation lightweight vehicle structures

Composites Evolution’s biocomposite materials are made from plant-based fibres and polymers and absorb CO₂ during the growth phase of their life cycle which has the potential to provide a beneficial contribution towards net-zero carbon vehicles.

Project highlights

  • Established in 2009, Composites Evolution is a developer, manufacturer and supplier of prepregs for the production of lightweight composite structures  suited for the automotive, motorsport, sports, marine, aerospace and rail sectors.
  • The plant-based fibres have a lower density than carbon fibres. Therefore they are  very effective in producing lightweight structures and reducing vehicle operational energy consumption. For electric vehicles, this reduced weight would correlates to increased range.
  • With material performance as the key differentiator, Composites Evolution opens the door to substituting conventional energy-intensive materials in the widest possible range of applications.
  • Our Technology Developer Accelerator Programme (TDAP) helped to develop strategy and business plans, as well as to develop a 30% bio-based resin system and demonstrator. Training in product development and innovation methodologies has also improved internal processes and understanding of the automotive sector and OEM requirements.
