Road to COP26: Fuel Cells

With a drive to decarbonise transport, fuel cell electric vehicles offer an alternative to battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and a system efficiency that competes with the best-in-class internal combustion engines (ICE) for many applications. In the past 5 years the technology has gone from niche to mainstream in passenger cars but also crucially in other sectors where fuel cells now play an essential role alongside different technologies in delivering net-zero transport.

This event and topic look at specific stores of cross-sectoral collaboration, innovation and R&D to realise mass deployment of fuel cells. From bikes to busses, railways to aerospace and energy storage, the hydrogen fuel cell has many opportunities – however, as with any emerging technology, there remain significant and unique hurdles to overcome. We’ll learn from UK and global expertise how this is being achieved.
