UK car manufacturing breaks 1,000,000 vehicles in 2016
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have announced that UK car exports passed the million mark in 2016 following steady growth for car manufacturing in September 2016.
UK car manufacturing volumes steadily increased over September to a growth of 0.9% with 159,726 vehicles produced. This drove the overall output for the first three quarters to rise by 10.5%, with exports growing 12.2% pushing the total to 1,000,642 vehicles. This increase in production is the result of a surge in demand from overseas, driving production up 5.0% to 123,199 vehicles.
Overall year-to-date output increased 10.5% to 1,292,453 units, as production for global markets grew for a 14th consecutive month. Export demand rose by 12.2% to take volumes past one million in the first three quarters for the first time on record.
