A new £4.5 million funding competition has been announced to develop self-powered rail vehicles focusing on efficiency in powertrain development.

The Advanced Propulsion Centre has announced a funding competition, APC 3, of up to £100 million for projects that deliver significant reductions in vehicle CO₂ or other emissions, compared to current best-in-class technologies.

The Advanced Propulsion Centre was formed in 2013 from a commitment between the government and automotive industry through the Automotive Council to position the UK as a global centre of excellence for low carbon propulsion development and production.

Up to £100 million of new funding is available through the Advanced Propulsion Centre for projects that deliver significant reductions in vehicle CO₂ or other emissions, compared to current best-in-class technologies.
