New Software Maturity Levels framework launching at Advanced Engineering 2026
3 November 2026
The Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC) will launch a new Software Maturity Levels framework at the Advanced Engineering show on 5 November 2026. APC is introducing this new framework to help organisations understand, assess and communicate software readiness in software-defined vehicle (SDV) innovation projects.
Traditional Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) do not fully assess software maturity. APC’s new framework introduces two complementary areas, Software Product Readiness and Software Factory Readiness, designed to work alongside existing Automotive Technology Readiness Levels. Together, they provide a more consistent way to assess and communicate the maturity of both software products and the processes used to develop them.
The framework provides practical guidance for APC funding applicants, automotive manufacturers, suppliers and government stakeholders navigating increasingly software-led vehicle innovation.
Angad Jessel, Automotive Trends Analyst, APC said:
“As software becomes increasingly central to vehicle innovation, the ability to evaluate both software products and the capabilities behind their development is an important part of planning and communicating progress. APC’s framework aims to provide accessible, forward-looking guidance rather than replace established automotive TRL assessments.
At the Advanced Engineering Show, APC will bring this insight into conversation with the wider automotive innovation community.”
Visitors to the show can also see a number of UK government funded automotive innovation projects. The APC and Zenzic teams will be available on stand H180 to discuss upcoming DRIVE35 funding opportunities and how UK businesses can access support to advance automotive technologies and processes.
Alex Wood and Angad Jessel will also be presenting a session titled “Why Software Readiness Levels Don’t Tell the Whole Story” at the Automotive, Mobility & Electrification Forum on 5 November, at 13:00 – 13:20.
The Software Maturity Levels framework will be available here from 5 November 2026.
