RAM Innovations – e-SWITCH
e-SWITCH demonstrates compact solid-state power distribution, replacing contactors and fuses with embedded-die SiC modules for faster, reliable electric vehicles systems.
The e-SWITCH project will demonstrate a new approach to power distribution in electric vehicles using solid-state switching technology. Today, most vehicles rely on mechanical contactors and fuses to connect the high-voltage battery to systems such as the motor drive, charger, and DC-DC converter. These components are bulky, slow to act, and subject to wear, limiting efficiency and reliability.
RAM Innovations has developed a Bidirectional Switch (BDS) that can replace both contactors and fuses in a single compact module. Using advanced embedded-die packaging, silicon carbide (SiC) chips are integrated directly into circuit boards, creating modules that are smaller, faster, and more efficient than existing solutions.
The project will build a Power Distribution Module (PDM) demonstrator to validate the performance of these BDS modules in a realistic automotive setting. The demonstrator will be showcased at UK and international exhibitions, providing car makers and powertrain companies with a tangible reference design for the next generation of vehicle electrical systems.
