Mint Bioming Limited – COMET: Fuelling heavy machinery beyond diesel
Mint Bioming Limited is leading a pioneering project to develop sustainable, circular solutions for lithium-ion battery recycling. In collaboration with JLR, LiBatt Recycling, and WMG, the initiative will demonstrate how critical minerals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt, can be recycled to support the UK’s transition to net zero.
At the heart of the project, Mint will scale its proprietary low‑carbon hydrometallurgical refining technology at a demonstration facility, producing high-quality recycled materials for EV battery production. LiBatt Recycling will establish domestic processing of end-of-life automotive batteries into black mass, while WMG will create new cells for JLR to evaluate the performance of Mint’s recycled materials.
This project will look to strengthen the UK’s onshore supply of critical minerals, reduce the reliance on imports, and support a resilient, green future for the automotive industry.
Project highlights
- Demonstrates key recycling stages for a UK-based, sustainable closed loop for EV batteries
- An industry first for utilising an alkaline based recycling technology to produce CAM
- Addresses a market gap in black mass refining
