McMurtry Automotive – PURE Regeneration: Track to Road in Record Time

Developing advanced zero-emission propulsion technologies.

This project seeks to develop advanced zero-emission propulsion technologies by integrating high-performance modular battery systems, state-of-the-art in-wheel yokeless axial flux motors, and a redundant braking system into a UK-built high-performance EV demonstrator.

The focus is on maximising efficiency, packaging, and power density to accelerate TRL/MRL progression for next-generation electric drivetrains. All technologies and IP are UK-developed and will feed directly into McMurtry’s future road cars.

Technological developments will be commercialised via its Applied Technologies division through Tier 1 supply chain and OEM partnerships, supporting the UK’s net-zero ambitions and building domestic capability in high-performance EV propulsion.

Project highlights:

  • McMurtry will develop and integrate a 99.8kWh structural battery system delivering 1.4MW peak output and 212Wh/kg energy density at module level.
  • YASA’s axial flux motors, already in low-volume OEM supply, will be advanced and integrated at vehicle level.
  • The project will develop and calibrate YASA’s dual redundant braking system, eliminating the need for rear friction brakes.
  • McMurtry will lead development of powertrain and braking control software.

Project consortium:

  • MCMURTRY AUTOMOTIVE
  • YASA
