Magnetic Systems Technology – Battery Energy Storage Systems for Commercial Electric Vehicles
Magtec will develop two new battery systems based on the latest Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) and Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) cell technology for commercial truck applications.
Magtec leads UK design and manufacture of EV drive systems and vehicles for commercial applications. Its team, based at its purpose-built manufacturing/innovation facility in Rotherham, will develop the next generation of High Voltage batteries for integration into commercial vehicles.
They will develop a battery design and a manufacturing process which is modular and scalable in battery size and volume of manufacture, and which will allow the same materials and processes to provide a compact, low weight solution for different applications. An LFP Battery system will be demonstrated on a new 7.5T Aircraft refuelling truck with Fluid Transfer International, whilst a NMC battery system will be Reg100R3 certified and demonstrated on a repowered 26T Refuse Collection Vehicle with Adur & Worthing Council.
Project highlights:
- The project will create prototype battery products, with differing cell chemistry, to suit a wide variety of applications.
- Demonstrator units will be integrated with both on-road and off-road vehicles to demonstrate adaptability against customer priorities.
- Post-project field trials will build data intelligence, benchmarking performance, safety and durability for full-life assessment and technology transfer to other markets.
