Innervated Vehicle Engineering – ZEPTA – Zero Emissions PowerTrain Architecture

ZEPTA demonstrates a sustainable transformation of commercial transport by repowering a Diesel 18 Tonne to a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powertrain vehicle.

ZEPTA will accelerate the shift to zero-emission transport by converting existing diesel trucks into clean, hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles. Instead of waiting for new zero-emission trucks to be manufactured, ZEPTA offers a faster, more sustainable way to decarbonise heavy-duty transport by transforming the vehicles already on the road.

The project is led by IVe, building on the company’s development and deployment of its 3.5-tonne hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain, which has already proven that zero-emission conversions can be practical, reliable, and commercially viable.

ZEPTA scales this capability into the heavy-duty sector, applying IVe’s technology, knowledge, and integration experience to an 18-tonne truck platform. Grayson Thermal Systems will design and supply the advanced thermal management system that keeps the fuel cell, and cabin operating at peak efficiency. Farrall’s Group will operate the converted truck in real-world daily use, providing performance data and customer insight.

Project highlights:

  • ZEPTA develops a modular retrofit powertrain that can be installed in a wide range of existing heavy vehicles, accelerating fleet decarbonisation, reduces waste, and extending the life of current assets.
