Ilika Technologies – PRIMED
Prototype to accelerate automotive market readiness
Lithium-ion batteries have traditionally been the technology of choice for electric-powered transportation. Recently, adoption of EVs has slowed due to safety, infrastructure, cost and performance shortcomings. Automotive OEMs and battery manufacturers are in a race to develop better batteries. Solid-State Batteries (SSB) are a post-lithium technology combining the highest cell performance and safety features to enable optimised battery packs and lighter vehicles with longer range.
In PRIMED, Ilika will demonstrate the manufacturing scalability of its Goliath SSB technology to an A-sample level, trialling industrially relevant equipment and collaborating with HSSMI on a production model to support further scale-up to a gigafactory level.
Project highlights:
- PRIMED will accelerate time-to-market by delivering Ilika’s automotive A-Sample 50Ah Solid State Battery, built on industrially relevant equipment in the UK, to potential licensees of the technology.
- Post-project, automotive OEMs and Battery Manufacturing Tier 1s will undertake test and validation programmes, which will be a springboard to licensing discussions.
- Producing a Production Scale Model and Business Case Review to support industrialisation to gigafactory.
- Ilika will support B-Sample development and beyond under licence and use licencing revenue to support its battery R&D and supply chain activities in the UK.
