HiSpeed – VOLANTE: Value-Oriented & Versatile Advanced Niche Vehicle Traction Drive
Deliver an agile electric drive unit, integrating HiSpeed’s CSCW motor and next-generation inverter within Electrogenic’s advanced powertrain platform.
Volante is a collaboration between HiSpeed and Electrogenic to develop an agile and affordable electric drive unit designed specifically for the niche vehicle sector. The project brings together HiSpeed’s innovative motors and inverter technologies with Electronics’ advanced software-defined powertrain platform, creating a fully integrated electric drive unit that is designed and assembled in the UK.
The project will deliver a production-ready electric drive unit and a complete demonstrator for a Toyota Land Cruiser conversion. This UK-developed technology will strengthen the domestic EV supply chain, reduce reliance on imported systems, support new export opportunities and help safeguard and grow high-value engineering roles across the UK.
Project highlights:
- The aim of the project is to give smaller and specialist vehicle manufacturers access to high-quality electric powertrains that are normally only available to large OEMs in high volumes.
- Volante addresses the gap of the existing products on the market being low-volume and expensive, by developing a flexible modular system that can be used in a wide range of vehicles.
