FluoRok – Demo-Fluor-Bat
Developing a demonstrator manufacturing facility for Li-Ion battery electrolyte salt production.
The Demo-Fluor-Bat consortium will deliver a demonstrator facility of FluoRok’s innovative process to access fluorochemicals to produce Lithium Hexafluorophosphate, a crucial component of lithium-ion batteries in EVs.
The facility will produce up to 10 tonnes/annum, using unit operations readily scalable to \>1000tonnes/annum. The project will advance technology maturity, support commercial exploitation, and address a UK EV supply chain gap. The project will include LiPF6 performance testing in Li-ion batteries, technoeconomic/life-cycle assessments and a focus on sustainability/circularity.
Project highlights:
- Delivering a “process”-demonstrator manufacturing facility for its novel chemical process towards LiPF6, a critical raw material in the EV supply chain for manufacturing Li-Ion batteries (LiB).
- The project will close a critical supply chain gap and competitive disadvantage vs international comparators for the UK-based LiB production needed to support domestic energy storage, and EV manufacturing.
