Electrified Automation – Developing Scalable High Voltage Low Power Motors (HVLP)

HVLP is focused on the development and manufacture of high-voltage electric motors for off-highway vehicles, equipment, and machinery.

Project HVLP takes a market-leading manufacturing platform that today produces a state-of-the-art low voltage (24 — 144V) permanent magnet electric motor and evolves it to create a range of high voltage (up to 800V) motors. Using the current platform as the foundation significantly reduces the costs and time to market and will create a market-leading product in terms of size, weight and cost.

The motors will be exploited into the off-highway market that is seeing rapid growth in electrification and a clear trend for future and larger equipment to move to higher voltages.

Project highlights:

  • Evolving their product offering to create motors operating up to 800V and 50kW for off-highway vehicles, equipment and machinery.
  • The motors will continue to be extremely compact, highly efficient and scalable, and critically be manufacturable on the existing automated low-voltage manufacturing line.
  • Applications for the motors within off-highway equipment will include traction, hydraulic and ancillary drive whilst also working as part of a power take off system (PTO).
