DITCH – Digital Twin Technologies for Cleaner Off-Highway Machinery

This project explores a new approach to developing cleaner, more efficient powertrains for off‑highway machines such as excavators and bulldozers. As emissions regulations tighten, these machines will need hybrid, electric, hydrogen or biofuel powertrains designed for real‑world operating conditions.

The project will deliver a proof‑of‑concept Driver‑ and Powertrain‑in‑the‑Loop demonstration, linking a real propulsion system with a virtual model of the machine and its working environment. Using Simcenter Amesim and Mevea software, the team will create a real‑time digital twin to support testing and development, with results shared with industry and the wider community.
