Cummins – DriveSense: Sensor-enabled smart motor for heavy-duty drives

DriveSense develops and demonstrates sensor-enabled electric motors and power electronics for efficient, zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles, enhancing UK manufacturing.

The DriveSense project, led by Cummins with support from Transense Technologies, aims to develop and demonstrate a new generation of electric motor and power electronics systems designed specifically for medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles. The project will help the UK advance towards net-zero emissions while strengthening local manufacturing and innovation capability.

The innovation lies in bringing together new motor and inverter technologies with cutting-edge sensing and control systems to make electric drive systems more efficient, reliable, and easier to manufacture at scale in the UK. This will reduce reliance on imported components, support UK-based supply chains, and create new opportunities for skilled jobs and sustainable economic growth.

Project highlights:

  • The project will help accelerate the transition to cleaner, more efficient heavy-duty transport and establish the UK as a leader in advanced electric propulsion technology.

Project consortium:

  • Cummins Generator Technology
  • Transense Technologies
