Botanic Energy: Revolutionising cold chain logistics with solid state cooling

Botanic Energy has developed an innovative solid-state cooling system for delivery fleets. Unlike conventional refrigeration systems that rely on refrigerants, compressors, and large heat exchangers, Botanic’s thermoelectric technology uses semiconductors, making it simpler, more compact, and about 30% more energy efficient. This efficiency is especially valuable for electric vehicles, as it increases driving range and reduces charging needs, further enhanced by solar integration on the vehicle. Support from the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK’s Technology Development Accelerator Programme (TDAP) helped Botanic Energy validate the automotive market, refine its business model, and secure further funding to build demonstrator vehicles. As a result, Botanic Energy, has grown significantly and is now preparing for commercialisation with plans to scale production and attract further investment.

Botanic Energy was a participant in wave 6 of the Technology Developer Accelerator Progamme (TDAP) and received £119,419 in government grant funding through the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK.

The Technology Developer Accelerator Programme is now known as Mobilise. The programme builds on the award-winning features of the Technology Developer Accelerator Programme (TDAP) and combines them with the technical validation opportunities currently provided by Zenzic’s CAM Scale-Up UK initiative; namely unparalleled access to an extensive network of world-leading Testbed facilities.
