Anaphite: Transforming battery manufacturing with pioneering dry coating technology

Anaphite, a Bristol-based start-up, has developed a solvent-free dry coating process for manufacturing lithium-ion battery electrodes — a significant departure from the 40-year-old standard method that relies on wet inks, solvents, and large energy-intensive drying ovens. Their approach reduces electrode production costs by around 30%, cuts energy consumption, and lowers the carbon footprint of EV battery manufacturing. Originally focused on improving battery performance through novel chemistry, after participating in the Technology Developer Accelerator Programme (TDAP), Anaphite, identified dry coating as a stronger market fit. The support they received enabled them to raise £10.4 million in 2024, double their headcount from 25 to 45 employees, and expand their facilities with a new dry room and cell testing lab.

Anaphite was a participant in wave 7 of the Technology Developer Accelerator Progamme (TDAP) and received £169,663 in government grant funding through the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK.

The Technology Developer Accelerator Programme is now known as Mobilise. The programme builds on the award-winning features of the Technology Developer Accelerator Programme (TDAP) and combines them with the technical validation opportunities currently provided by Zenzic’s CAM Scale-Up UK initiative; namely unparalleled access to an extensive network of world-leading Testbed facilities.
