APC12: advancing the UK’s low carbon automotive capability

Through our 12th funding competition, APC12: advancing the UK’s low carbon automotive capability, we will be investing up to £20 million in projects that support the development of low carbon propulsion capability in the UK automotive sector and anchor the next-generation supply chain.

We are welcoming applications from UK-based later-stage R&D projects that require funding to support the UK’s long-term supply chain and associated capabilities, in the design, build and manufacture of low and zero tailpipe-emission capable vehicles. We are looking for projects from organisations developing technology that can significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve air quality compared the best in class.

Projects must help make capabilities a permanent part of the UK supply chain. They must be in the following areas:

  • electric machines and power electronics
  • energy storage and energy management
  • lightweight vehicle and powertrain structures
  • alternative propulsion systems
  • thermal propulsion systems

Projects must have a proven technology concept and demonstrate that there is a clear route to market, with the primary technology application being automotive.
