The Advanced Propulsion Centre has opened for applications to join this year’s APC Greenpower Challenge.
After a successful first year for the APC Greenpower Programme, which has seen 7 schools across the UK build and race their own electric vehicles, the APC is looking for more primary schools (ages 9-11) who would like a chance of winning a Greenpower kit car. Through the competition, the winning schools will have the opportunity to design, build and race their own Greenpower electric kit car at race courses around the UK.
“The Greenpower project was a fantastic way to include the entire class in a practical activity to learn about science, maths and working as a team” – Judith Long, Aston-on-Trent Primary School.
The Greenpower challenge gives students a taste of the exciting world of engineering, inspiring them to put themselves on track to becoming the faces of future UK automotive engineering.
The APC and its Spokes guided budding engineers through the project, with the aim of engaging all students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects and promoting equal opportunities. The seven schools competed in numerous races, with some reaching heights of the regional semi-finals and winning of the APC Greenpower trophy. To see the students journey, watch the video below.
