Industry Organisations

The Advanced Propulsion Centre was created from the work undertaken by the Automotive Council to identify the growth strategy for the UK industry. There are a number of organisations which are key stakeholders in the low carbon automotive sector, part of the collaboration created by the APC and listed below.

Automotive Council

The Automotive Council was founded in 2009 to transform the business environment for the automotive industry in the UK. www.automotivecouncil.co.uk

Automotive Investment Organisation (AIO)

The Automotive Investment Organisation (AIO) is led by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and takes strategic direction from the Automotive Council to develop a strategy to repatriate the supply chain and build on the opportunities identified in the UK. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/joe-greenwell-to-lead-automotive-investment-organisation

Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS)

The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) is the department for economic growth. The department invests in skills and education to promote trade, boost innovation and help people to start and grow a business. BIS also protects consumers and reduces the impact of regulation. www.gov.uk/bis

Cenex

Cenex was established in 2005 as the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell technologies.  Today Cenex operates as an independent not-for-profit consultancy specialising in the delivery of projects, supporting innovation and market development, focused on low carbon vehicles and associated energy infrastructure. www.cenex.co.uk

High Value Manufacturing Catapult

The High Value Manufacturing Catapult network consists of seven technology and innovation centres, established and overseen by the Technology Strategy Board, with over £200 million of government investment. www.hvm.catapult.org.uk

Innovate UK

Innovate UK (formerly The Technology Strategy Board) is the UK’s innovation agency, offering support and funding to help business develop new products and services and bring them closer to market.   www.innovateuk.org

Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, the LowCVP

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, the LowCVP was established in 2003, and is a public-private partnership working to accelerate a sustainable shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels and create opportunities for UK business. www.lowcvp.org.uk

Niche Vehicle Network

The Niche Vehicle Network is an independent association of over 100 niche vehicle manufacturers, specialist technology companies and supply chain businesses. www.nichevehiclenetwork.co.uk

Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV)

The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) is a team working across government to support the early market for ULEVs. It published the Government’s ULEV strategy in September 2013. https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/low-carbon-vehicle-strategy-launch

Proving Factory

The Proving Factory is a unique manufacturing, assembly and validation organisation for the UK automotive industry, credibly bridging the current market ‘gap’ between technology developers making innovative, low carbon prototypes and the needs of vehicle manufacturers for volume supply. www.theprovingfactory.com

Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) exists to support and promote the interests of the UK automotive industry at home and abroad. Working closely with member companies, SMMT acts as the voice of the motor industry, promoting its position to government, stakeholders and the media. www.smmt.co.uk

Transport Systems Catapult

The Transport Systems Catapult is the UK’s technology and innovation centre for Intelligent Mobility, harnessing emerging technologies to improve the movement of people and goods around the world. www.ts.catapult.org.uk

Transport KTN

West Midlands Manufacturing Consortium Ltd (WMMC Ltd)

The West Midlands Manufacturing Consortium Ltd (WMMC Ltd) was set up in 2002 as a special purpose vehicle to deliver the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) in the West Midlands. www.wmmcltd.com
